Garden Grove pedestrian injury claims, built for trial.

Garden Grove's main streets are wide, signalized, and lined with shopping plazas and driveways. That is hard terrain for anyone on foot. In the state's 2023 traffic safety rankings, 58 pedestrians were killed or injured in Garden Grove, ranking it 21st worst of 62 California cities its size.

Our Garden Grove office is at 13252 W Garden Grove Blvd. Attorney Harrison Le is a former public defender who has litigated more than 20 jury trials, and our team includes Vietnamese and Spanish speakers.

What to do after being hit by a car in Garden Grove

Call 911 and get the report number

On city streets, Garden Grove Police responds. Ask for the report number, and get the driver's name, plate, and insurance if you can.

Get medical care right away

Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center is on Garden Grove Blvd, and UCI Medical Center in Orange is the county's Level I trauma center.

Find the cameras

Storefronts, bus stops, and traffic signals along Harbor, Brookhurst, and Garden Grove Blvd often have video that is overwritten within days. Tell us where it happened and we will send preservation letters.

Write down what you remember

The signal, the crosswalk, which way the car was turning, and any witnesses. Details fade fast.

Call a lawyer before the insurer

The driver's insurer will look for a reason to blame you. You do not have to give a recorded statement.

California pedestrian law in plain terms

Drivers must yield in crosswalks. Under Vehicle Code section 21950, a driver must yield to a pedestrian crossing in any marked crosswalk, or in an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.
Crossing mid-block does not end your case. Outside a crosswalk, a pedestrian must yield to close traffic (section 21954), but the driver still owes due care. California uses comparative fault (Li v. Yellow Cab Co., 1975), so your share of blame reduces the award but does not erase it.
Hit-and-run. Leaving the scene of an injury crash is a crime under Vehicle Code section 20001. Your own uninsured motorist coverage can often pay even though you were on foot.
Dangerous streets and six months. A city can be liable for a dangerous condition of its property, like a missing signal or a hidden crosswalk (Government Code section 835). Those claims must be presented within six months (section 911.2). Everything else: two years (CCP 335.1).
